Site Preparation & Building Pads
LCB Contracting prepares building sites across Devonport, Burnie, Ulverstone and the wider North West coast: clearing the block, cutting the building pad to level, compacting the base and leaving the site clean and ready for the concreter or builder. We work to your building designer’s or engineer’s levels so the slab goes down without surprises.
A good pad is flat, compacted and drains away from the build, and it matches the levels on your drawings. We handle the whole sequence: stripping topsoil, cutting and filling to design height, compacting in layers, and trimming the finished surface. Batters and retaining cuts are shaped so the block stays stable long after handover.
On sloping North West blocks, how the cut is planned makes or breaks the budget. Lucas walks every site before quoting and will tell you straight if there’s a cheaper way to set the house or shed on the block. That’s the benefit of dealing directly with the operator, not a salesperson.

What does site preparation include?
Typically: clearing vegetation and topsoil, cutting and filling the pad to your design level, compacting the base in layers, shaping batters and drainage falls, and trimming ready for the concreter. If the job needs it we also excavate for retaining walls, services and driveways in the same visit.
How long does a house pad take?
Most residential pads on the North West coast take one to three days depending on slope, ground conditions and how much material has to move. Larger or heavily sloped blocks can take longer, and we’ll give you a timeframe with the quote.
Do I need a soil test before earthworks?
Your building designer or engineer will normally order the soil test, and the pad is then built to suit that classification. If you’re early in the process we’re happy to look at the block and talk through site costs before you commit to a design.
