Driveways, Road Base & Hardstands
LCB Contracting builds gravel driveways, farm roads, car parks and hardstands throughout North West Tasmania. We supply and cart the road base with our own tippers, place it with excavator and grader attachments, then compact it with rollers and water cart, so the finished surface sheds water and holds up to Tasmanian winters.
A driveway that lasts is built in layers: a shaped, compacted subgrade, the right base material for the ground, and correct falls and crowning so water runs off instead of through. We build new driveways and rescue old ones, repairing potholes and soft spots properly by fixing the drainage that caused them.
For commercial clients we construct car parks and hardstands to specification, including staged compaction and preparation for sealing or concrete by others. Our Burnie car park project was handed over ready to seal, on programme, with compaction verified across the full pad.

How much does a gravel driveway cost?
It depends on length, ground conditions and how much base is needed. As a guide, material, cartage and compaction are the main costs. Because we run our own trucks, our cartage rates are competitive on the coast. Send us the address and rough length and we’ll quote it quickly.
What road base do you use?
We use quarry road base appropriate to the job, typically a coarse sub base layer topped with a finer crushed base that binds and compacts hard. For farm tracks and soft ground we may recommend geofabric under the base to stop it pumping into the subgrade.
Do you fix potholed driveways?
Yes. We repair and resheet existing driveways, but we fix the cause first. Potholes are almost always a drainage problem, so we reshape falls, add table drains or culverts where needed, then resheet and compact.
